About VIN

What is a VIN/PIN?
A VIN stands for vehicle identification number (VIN) or is also known as a product identification number (PIN). It is the identifying code for a specific on-road vehicle or off-road machine. The VINPIN serves as the machine’s fingerprint, identifying it individually. VIN/PINs are unique to a specific machine.

How many digits are in a VIN/PIN?
A VIN/PIN for a Vermeer branded product is composed of 17 characters (alpha numeric, consisting of digits and capital letters) that act as a unique identifier for one machine. A VIN/PIN code includes indicators of the machine’s model, features, and manufacturer. The VIN/PIN is used to track equipment ownership, product field campaigns, warranty claims and more.

Why is a VIN/PIN required for purchase of some products on this website?
Providing a VIN/PIN associates a respective Vermeer machine with applicable machine-specific software, to help check for machine compatibility.

Why is a VIN/PIN required for the purchase of some Vermeer software products, and not for others?
Some Vermeer productivity tools software is machine-based, and specifically designed to work with respective Vermeer machines. Therefore, for those machine-related software products, a VIN/PIN is required as part of the purchase process to help check machine compatibility. Other Vermeer productivity tools software is only job or project-based, rather than machine-based. Therefore, VIN/PINs are not required as part of the purchase process for software that is not machine-specific.

Where is the VIN/PIN located on a Vermeer machine?
The specific location of the VIN/PIN can vary by Vermeer machine model, but generally can be found:
  • on an embossed metal black/silver plate affixed on the machine’s frame usually on the right side towards the front of the machine or near the operator’s station;
  • engraved/stamped into the frame usually on the right side towards the front;
  • on a machine identification decal
  • Here are examples of what a VIN/PIN plate and machine identification decal on a Vermeer machine looks like. The data on the plate will vary depending on the type of machine but the Model and VIN will always be included.

Have questions on where to locate the VIN/PIN on your machine? Call or email Vermeer at 800-829-0051 (7 a.m.–5 p.m. Central Standard Time) or email: [email protected]. We would be happy to assist you.

Is a VIN/PIN only included on Vermeer equipment?
Manufacturers of on-road vehicles are required to identify each vehicle with a 17-digit VIN. Many manufacturers of off-road machines also follow a similar 17-digit PIN unique identifier system.  Equipment manufactured by Vermeer Corporation since the mid-1980s has included a unique VIN/PIN.
For the purposes of this site, the Vermeer Manufacturing assigned VIN/PIN for a machine will be required for machine-specific software purchases or renewals.

Does all Vermeer equipment have a VIN?
Equipment manufactured by Vermeer Corporation since the mid-1980s has included a unique VIN/PIN.

My Vermeer machine has more than one VIN/PIN; which one do I use?
Some Vermeer machines include attachments, such as a backhoe, rockwheel, trencher. For these machines, both the power-unit (tractor) and the attachment (digging tool or function) will each have a VIN/PIN. In order to purchase the machine-specific software, the VIN/PIN of the power-unit (tractor) will be required.
For the purpose of entering VIN/PIN information into this website, enter the main equipment unit VIN located on the main power-unit.

What do I do if I don’t know or can’t find my Vermeer equipment VIN?
Your Vermeer machine VIN/PIN can be found on an embossed/stamped metal plate on your machine. If you do not have a product manual, or your VIN is missing, please contact your local Vermeer dealer or the Vermeer Customer Data team’s toll-free number at 1-800-829-0051 (7 a.m.–5 p.m. Central Standard Time) or email: [email protected] for assistance in locating your Vermeer machine VIN/PIN.

Can I leave my VIN/PIN blank when making a purchase from this website?
For machine-related software purchases from this website, the Vermeer VIN/PIN for your machine is required to provide the correct software and complete your purchase. For software not related to specific machine, a VIN/PIN is not required.
